To get prepared for the evening, we stopped by Indochino with The Whisky Wisemen founders and team.

The original expression of our elegant, floral spirit and the real backbone of the Glenmorangie range. A ten-year-old single malt, Glenmorangie Original is produced by marrying the delicate spirit that emerges from Scotland's tallest stills, with first and second fill American white oak casks.
It is here, maturing for ten long years in a range of ex-bourbon casks such as our famous slow-grown and air-dried 'designer casks' from Missouri, that our raw spirit develops a perfect balance between sweetness and complexity. Resulting in a mature spirit that is soft, mellow and creamy. Perfect for enjoying at any time.
The Whisky Wisemen Society is a not-for-profit organization started in Vancouver and founded on a love for whisky and the desire to share that love with a like-minded community. We've shared the vision with 6 chapters globally, our exclusive private membership, as well as large scale events across the world. Our mission, is to create a global community of change-markers who want to #dogood and #bebetter everyday.
Since January 2013, we've hosted #socialwhisky events on the #ThirdThursday of every month in Vancouver's historic Gastown district. Since then, we have expanded to several other new cities in Calgary, Toronto, New York, Melbourne and the Cayman Islands.
Canadian Whisky
Without the means for traditional processing, alternative distilling practices were incorporated to give Canadian whisky its individual, characteristic flavor. Produced on the basis of cereal grains, the dominant, base ingredient is typically corn, with rye, wheat and barley being used as blending agents to produce a distinctive flavor. The actual recipe of a brand, in particular the portion of each of the cereal grains used, is what characterizes the whisky and sets it apart from its contemporaries.
J.p. Wiser's Spokesman gave us an in-depth analysis of Canadian Whisky and what makes it stand out from the rest.
-
The Whisky:
Corn and Rye based, aged for 16 years. Non chill filtered and 43.4% in celebration of the Canadian whisky style of the mid to late 1800's. Aged in majority brand new virgin oak barrels made of white oak.
Note* The rye and corn grain were sourced exclusively from Canadian farmers using non-GMO grains.
Why we did it:
This is a unique and premium whisky for Canada’s 150 birthday in 2017 and not a happy birthday label on preexisting whisky. The spirit chosen for this was distilled at the turn of the century (2000)
The bottles are individually numbers from 1 to 7827 which represents every week in Canadas 150 year history. Just below on the label you'll see associated week and year.
