THE INNER-WORKING OF KALEO
“I have always been surrounded by live music growing up...”
How did you get into making music ? What was the connection with music that pushed you into this? — Both of my parents are song writers and musicians, so kanikapila was non-stop with my family. I have been surrounded with live music since I grew up in Hawaii. Every time I’m back home, it’s still the same vibe: music everywhere.
“EASE AND FLOW...”
How do you portray positivity and good energy with those around you? — I am “finding the good” in things more and more as the moments go by. I try to be more gentle when talking to myself. This, in turn, makes me happier, which makes the people around me happier. “Ease” and “flow” are two words I like to repeat to feel good.
"THE ONE MAIN THING IS APPRECIATION..."
What gets you out of the bed to keep pushing the Pepper follwing?
— I would say the one thing that gets me out of bed is appreciation for my craft. Pepper is the vehicle that has taken me around the globe with my best friends. The band is beautiful to me, with all the victories, defeats, good times, and bad times. The love and gratitude I have for this band reaches new heights daily, which allows me to expand my craft. For example, I own a record label and produce bands on the rise, co-writing and co-creating with some of my musical heros and artists we’ve been playing with forever. It’s easy to get out of bed when I focus on that.
